Former Trump campaign manager chiseled into GOP front-runner’s stump
A longtime Trump campaign adviser has become the front-runners for the Republican nomination for president in the fall, according to several media reports.
Chris Wood, a former campaign manager for President Donald Trump, has emerged as the frontrunner to replace Ohio Gov.
John Kasich, the former Florida governor who is expected to announce his presidential campaign on Sunday, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.
Wood is considered the most conservative candidate, but he has struggled to connect with conservative voters.
Trump’s running mate, Indiana Gov.
Mike Pence, has made it clear he will not run, saying he’s focused on winning the general election.
Wood, 57, is also known for his efforts to distance himself from the Trump campaign.
He left the Trump organization in April 2016 after he was involved in a dispute with a former Trump business associate.
Wood served as Trump’s campaign manager in the 2016 election cycle and served as a senior adviser during the 2016 campaign.
The former adviser has a history of controversy.
Wood has been sued several times for allegedly lying about sexual harassment allegations made by three women.
He has also been accused of plagiarism, though none of the accusations has been proven.
Wood’s wife, Christine, has filed a lawsuit against him in California claiming he sexually harassed her in 2008.
He is a Republican donor and has contributed $15 million to the party.
Trump has also publicly denied the accusations.
The White House declined to comment.
Trump is scheduled to announce the Republican nominee for president on Sunday at a campaign rally in Orlando, Florida.
Wood faces Democratic challenger Rep. John Delaney, who is a former governor of Maryland and a member of the House Oversight Committee.
